Police found the garage door had been left open and a roll of used duct tape in the residence

A woman stabbed in the chest and buried alive by her estranged husband managed to survive the horror ordeal by wiggling her nose in the dirt to create pockets of air.

Chae Kyong An, 53, kidnapped Young Sook An, 42, from her home in Washington, US, while the ex-couple's children were away. Cops had rushed to the house after a chilling 911 call was made by Young Sook An from her Apple watch while she was being hogtied and gagged.

Fox News reported that the 911 dispatcher repeatedly asked Ms An if she was having a medical emergency or was in any danger – but they could only hear her muffled screams.

CCTV footage from a nearby home then captured the moment Mr A sped past a police car on the way to investigate the October 16, 2022, incident. Cops arrived to discover the garage door had been left open and were told by the An children that their parents had been there about half an hour before but were now gone. A missing person notice was then issued for Ms An.

Young Sook An, 42, claims her husband buried her alive

Astonishingly the next day Ms An – covered in dirt with duct tape on parts of her body – banged on the door of a home on Steadman Road and declared her husband had tried to kill her, adding she'd dug herself out of a 19-inch grave he had dumped her in.

The woman, who was going through a bitter divorce battle at the time and had a domestic violence protective order against him, said he drove her to a wooded area after a fight at their home and put a heavy tree above the shallow grave.

Explaining how she managed to escape, Ms An said she wiggled her nose in the dirt to create pockets of space to allow her to breathe. She then claimed to trudge through the woods for around half an hour before knocking on the first house she found. A police statement said she was taken to a nearby hospital for her injuries.

A friend of Ms An and one of her children told authorities they received messages from her stating there was an emergency. The friend also told cops that Mr An had allegedly told his estranged wife he "wasn’t going down alone".

Chae was arrested on October 17 after a local spotted his vehicle while walking in the woods. He was charged with attempted murder, domestic violence/first-degree assault and kidnapping.
