Mother, who admitted to smoking highIy addictive drug in her bedroom with another man while her baby was dying in the other room, ‘had enough resources to get her 6-month-old daughter medical attention, but refused to do so’!
Police officials said the mom, later identified as 24-year-old HaIey, was arrested and later charged with multiple charges, including: mansIaughter, wanton endangerment, first-degree criminaI abuse of a child and possession of drug paraphernalia. During an interview with investigators, the young mother reportedly admitted to smoking powerful, highIy addictive drugs ever other day in front of her 3 children. Police officials said the mother reportedly had enough resources to get her 6-month-old baby, who died from apparent malnutrition, medical attention but refused to do so.
Police officials said the 6-month-old baby was found dead in her home. Authorities began their investigation after family friend, who was not identified, called 911 and told the dispatcher about unresponsive infant. During an initial interview with investigators, the young mom reportedly said that the night her baby died, she and another man smoked meth in her bedroom with the door open and all three children inside the home. The mother also told investigators that she found the baby unresponsive about 30 minutes later.
First responders reportedly found the baby. The 6-month-old girl, who was reportedly neglected, malnourished, dehydrated and paIe, was pronounced dead at the scene. First responders also said that the temperature inside the baby’s room was 85 degrees. In a follow-up interview with investigators, the mom reportedly said that her baby started losing weight 2 months ago, but she hadn’t taken her to a doctor since she was born.
When officers asked the woman why she didn’t took her daughter to the hospital, she reportedly said that she didn’t have a car. But, when she was asked how she got groceries, the young mom reportedly told them that friends would take her. ‘HaIey had ample resources to get her child medical attention but refused to do so,’ police officials said. Police officials also said that HaIey’s 1-year-old son tested positive for meth. The 24-year-old woman had no answer to how she could regularly buy drugs, but could not get her baby to the doctor.
