Man shot family members at dinner table thinking they were trying to poison him: police

The death of a North Codorus Township man allegedly shot by his brother-in-law Thursday has been officially ruled a homicide.

According to results of an autopsy released by the York County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday, 48-year-old Hector Vargas's death was caused by multiple gunshot wounds, and the manner of death was homicide.

His brother-in-law Antonio Saldana-Ramos, 47, is being held without bail in the York County Prison on charges of homicide and attempted first-degree murder following the shooting incident.

Saldana-Ramos allegedly opened fire around the dinner table, injuring his sister and killing his brother-in-law after he thought his family was trying to kill him and steal his money, police say.

Charging documents show that Saldana-Ramos reportedly told investigators he thought Vargas and his sister, Maritza Saldana-Ramos, were poisoning his food.
