A 23-year-old man is accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend's home, chasing her out, and stabbing her to death in front of a police officer in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, as per Law and Crime on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.

The suspect then stabbed himself in the neck while running away, but was captured and taken to a hospital.

The victim, identified as 19-year-old Jaden Battista, was pronounced dead at the hospital after suffering multiple stab wounds to her neck and chest. An autopsy confirmed her cause and manner of death on Saturday.

The suspect, identified as Trevor Christopher Weigel, was arraigned on Sunday on charges of criminal homicide, burglary, possession of an instrument of crime, disorderly conduct, and harassment. He is being held without bail at the Bucks County Correctional Facility.

According to the Bucks County District Attorney's Office, the incident occurred on Friday around 10:30 a.m.

Battista was on a FaceTime call with a friend when Weigel, her ex-boyfriend, showed up at her door and started banging on it.

He then broke in through a window on the first floor.

The friend heard a loud noise and Battista's voice becoming muffled, as if someone was covering her mouth.

The call was then cut off, and the friend tried to call back several times, but no one answered. The friend called 911 and reported a possible burglary and domestic violence situation.

A police officer from the Lower Makefield Township Police Department arrived at the scene and saw Weigel standing next to a red Ford Mustang with the passenger door open.He then saw him chase after Battista, who had run out of the house, and tackle her to the ground. He witnessed Weigel stabbing Battista repeatedly in the upper body.

The officer tried to intervene, but Weigel got up and ran toward Interstate 295. He stabbed himself in the right side of his neck while fleeing.

Another officer arrived and used a taser to subdue him. He was arrested and taken to a hospital for surgery.

The first officer attempted to save Battista's life by applying pressure to her wounds. She was transported to a hospital, but succumbed to her injuries.

The police recovered a knife at the scene, which they believe was the murder weapon. They also obtained body camera footage from the officers who apprehended Weigel.

The footage showed Weigel saying that he "lost it" after finding out that Battista was cheating on him.

Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn said that Weigel and Battista had a brief relationship of two months, and had broken up about two months before the killing.

She said that the prosecution will seek a first-degree murder conviction for Weigel.

Chief Kenneth D. Coluzzi of the Lower Makefield Township Police Department called Weigel a "coward" and praised the officers for their quick and brave response.

He said that Weigel stabbed Battista about 15 times, with two of them being "vital" injuries.

Battista's friends and family remembered her as a bright and kind person who had a positive impact on many people's lives.

Her childhood friend Lucy Hossler told WPVI that she was "such a light" and that she was "always smiling."
