 A Georgia couple have been arrested on murder charges in the shocking death of their 8-year-old daughter – who was beaten up to 20 times with a wooden rolling pin.


Police responded Tuesday afternoon to a home on Vine Springs in Bethlehem after first responders found the girl dead, WANF reported.

Sayra Barros’ stepmother, Natiela Barros, 34, and father, Cledir Mendes Barros, 37, were arrested on multiple charges, including murder and cruelty to children, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.


“[Natiela] beat the victim with a wooden rolling pin 10-20 times, refusing to get her medical care afterward, and the incident resulted in her death,” the arrest warrant states, WANF reported.


The stepmom called her husband, who came home and found the girl unresponsive, police said, adding that he called 911 and started CPR.

Cledir Mendes Barros, 37, was charged with second-degree felony murder and second-degree cruelty to children.

Natiela was angry with Sayra and allegedly struck her in various parts of her body, including the “top back of her neck,” Fox 5 reported.


She faced a Gwinnett County judge Wednesday after being charged with felony and malice murder, aggravated assault and first-degree cruelty to children.


“You’re going to be here for a while,” the judge said while denying bond to Natelia, who described herself as a stay-at-home mom.

Natiela allegedly called her husband before alerting authorities about the beating.

The girl’s dad was charged with second-degree felony murder and second-degree cruelty to children. Details about the charges were not immediately available.Neighbors in the small community northeast of Atlanta were stunned by the shocking crime.

One resident who did not want to be identified said she believes the family has four children.zI’ve never seen any violence coming from that family or that h4ome,” the woman told Fox 5.
