CLARK COUNTY, In. (WAVE) - The man who brutally killed an Indiana woman in her own apartment, has been sentenced to 55 years in prison.

Brian Montez Williams was found guilty in the 2021 murder of Melody Gambetty in her Clarksville Apartment.

Williams killed her in a botched robbery, cut off her fingers, toes and head, and put her body in a suitcase. He went back the next day to set the apartment on fire.

In a plea deal with the state, WIlliams faced anywhere from 45-55 years in prison. Despite testimony from his loved ones and doctors on his bout with schizophrenia, the judge opted for the longest sentence.

Clark County Prosecutor Jeremy Mull said family members of Gambetty were unable to attend because of how gruesome the crime was.

“Because of the nature of the facts of this case, what he did to her, it was difficult for them to attend court hearing and relive what she went through,” said Mull.

Williams’ attorneys plan to appeal the judge’s 55-year sentence.
